I had so much fun making an On the Farm book with my preschoolers last week. Its always fun to get kiddos involved in making their own books. The text is simple and repetitive, which will help the students as they read and re read this book. For the front cover of the book, I used KPM Doodles on the farm clip art collection in black and white. The children just had to color the page, and then mounted it on red construction paper. The second page of the book read, The pig lives on the farm. For the art, I had the kiddos marble paint with brown tempera paint on pink construction paper. They had so much fun marble painting, and I had a blast watching them do so Once the paint was dry, I cut out a pig shape based on KPM Doodles, and the kids glued the words and the pigs to white construction paper. The cow lives on the farm was the next page of the students books. We used cow cookie cutters in black tempera paint for the illustration. I also gave the kids the option to finger paint spots on their cows. Of course, each of the kids did just thatThe cookie cutter looked like a cow at first glance, but the kids and I decided it looked a bit more like a jungle cat when printed on the paper. Oh well nothing turns out perfectly No matter what, the children will recognize their artwork when reading their books. After the cow page, we moved on to making sheep. I was inspired by the sheep in Ramblings of a Crazy Womans Kid Made Easter Cards go check them out, theyre adorable. I had the children use a white crayon to draw the outline of a sheep on black construction paper. Once that was done, they used paper hole reinforcements for the sheeps woolly coat. Some of them had tons of fun peeling the stickers off and placing them on the sheep. Others werent as interested, but all of the sheep came out well The last page of the book focused on horses. I used a basic stencil to outline a horse shape for the kids. They then colored the horse however they wanted, then used yarn to add the horses mane and tail. Some of the horses were very.
